It may seem like the economy has hit rock bottom, but for travel lovers, there has never been a better time to book a cruise. Most cruise lines have announced plans to do away with the ridiculous fuel surcharges they implemented earlier this year.
When oil prices were more than $160 per barrel, it made sense to the cruise lines to try to recoup the cost of operating their ships through this surcharge. Still, anything called a “surcharge” is never popular with travelers. Now that oil is down to $45 per barrel, the excuse the cruise lines used to raise prices is no longer applicable.
For most cruise lines, this means cruise lovers won’t be paying these dumb fees starting in 2009. It could return in the future if the price of oil goes back up, but let’s hope that the cruise lines come to their senses and realize that hidden fees and surprise surcharges are NOT what their guests want.
Princess still has Alaska cruises available for the 2009 season. Be sure to book your cruise as soon as possible so you don’t miss out!
