Going into our third day on the Crown Princess, we expected to arrive at George Town, Grand Cayman. However, rough seas made that impossible.
Our captain made the decision to port us in Spotts Bay, Grand Cayman. It was literally 10 minutes away from George Town by taxi.
We reached the shore via tenders. In this case, the tenders were our life boats, which hold a very large number of people.
Unfortunately, many of the shore excursions were cancelled due to weather, but we were lucky enough to be on an excursion that still operated.
We did an Atlantis submarine expedition. Because of our change in venue, we weren’t able to explore shipwrecks near George Town, but we were able to see some amazing coral and wildlife under the sea.
We descended down to 100 feet below the surface of the water. The sub is certified to go down to 150 feet with passengers, but according to the crew, the sub is quite capable of reaching about 800 feet before they have to worry about the sub crushing under the pressure.
The temperature was colder than expected. It was about 60 degrees, but the high winds made it feel much colder. During the summer months, I expect that the temperature is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving.
We departed Grand Cayman in the late afternoon on our way over to Roatan, Honduras.
