Our journey on the Crown Princess to Roatan, Honduras was extra special because we docked at a place called Mahogany Bay.
Mahogany Bay was built by the Carnival Corporation for the exclusive use of Carnival and Princess Cruise Line passengers. It features a terrific shopping area with all of your usual shops, and it also features a beach resort reachable by bridge or a chair lift.
The chair lift is very much like a ski lift except that it dumps you on sand instead of snow. However, it was very slow. I presume this was by design as you don’t generally have as many older people getting on ski lifts in Colorado. Or maybe you do. I don’t know having never been to Colorado.
When we arrived, it began to rain a little bit. It wasn’t a heavy rain at all, and it only lasted about an hour. The rest of the day was very pleasant and sunny in parts.
After shopping for a couple of hours, we arrived at the meeting point for our shore excursion. It was an island sightseeing tour, which also took us to an iguana farm. We made a few other stops as well, which included a home an American family built six years earlier.
It had an amazing view of the beaches from atop the hillside it was built into. They were very welcoming and offered our group drinks and allowed us to walk through their beautiful gardens.
In the garden, they had a hummingbird feeder that was swarming with these green hummingbirds. It was a very rich green, and I don’t recall ever seeing a hummingbird that color before. They buzzed around the feeder and had no issues with us being so close to them while they were feeding. I snapped a bunch of photos, but this one was my favorite.
The next day has us heading to Cozumel. The only other time I visited Cozumel was on my first cruise back in 2003. It was the Carnival Fascination. Although it was nice, the Crown Princess is a tremendous upgrade from that very first cruise we took.
I can’t wait to see how much it’s changed since then.
Be sure to take a list of upcoming cruise deals on the Crown Princess. It’s a great cruise!
